Well, the results are in! The Gabe Vitale 5k run was great. The weather was nice, but it was a bit windy. The course was tough, we had to run over grass and this killer hill twice. With about 1/2 mile left, the person in front of me started gagging! This person, while I'm not mentioning any names though you can probably figure it out, has true heart. I really thought she was going to puke, but she didn't slow down a bit.
As for me, I started way too fast. I was dying with a 1/2 mile left, and the whole gagging thing didn't help. If this person who is clearly fitter than I was dying, what about me? I slowed down a lot, my mind was defeated.
I finished with a time of 22:14 (7:10/M). This put me 4th in my age group. I came in 7 seconds behind the 3rd place winner. If I had only pushed it at the end!
Oh well. I took the results of the race and parsed the results to come up with the following:
Place Name Age Current Points Points for Gabe 5k Final
1 Phillip Giackette 15 4961 1000 5976
2 Michael Morrissey 43 3849 762 4654
3 Anthony Asiaghi 51 3668 739 4458
4 Antonio Victorio 57 3463 704 4224
5 Jarret Freeman 13 3204 888 4105
6 Mitchell Coven 47 3251 641 3939
7 David Gonzalez 26 2903 739 3668
8 Kenneth Bradley 46 2867 600 3513
I'll take 7th place. If I had made the Alley Pond Park 5k I could have been maybe 4th. Pretty cool.
Sadly, the summer is over and so is the grand prix. I am probably going to cut back on my mileage and start doing some cross-training to make it a little more interesting. I've been looking into some karate and swimming classes. But as I type this, I am getting ready for my normal Thursday 5k run :) Next two races are the St. Franics Prep 5k and Fort Trotten 5k. Not sure which I will go to.
I had a great summer. One of the best ever. I never had so much fun. Between the camping, running, basketball and just relaxing in the park, it was all too good.
I regretfully bid farewell to the summer of 2005.
