Even spiderman can't f'kin hold me down!

I just completed the Newport 5k here in Jersey City. I woke up bright and early feeling awesome. Today was a good day to die!

I ran a personal best of 20:57 (6:45/mile). That placed me 22nd out of about 150 runners, second in my age group. I held my pace until the very end. I had nothing left to give when this female runner wearing a spiderman jumpsuit tried to out kick me.

Sorry lady, I don't f'in think so. I hit the zone and forgot about all the pain in my legs and even where I was. I kicked harder than I have ever done before.

Even spiderman can't hold me down!

He's going the distance!
He's going for speed!
She's all alone (all alone) all alone in her time of need!
Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse
He's going the distance
(aaaaawww aaawww)

Everytime I hear the song Ana Ng by TMBG it brings me back to a time when I was young and I could stay up as late as I wanted. One summer I would stay up all night playing Wizardy on the NES, scouring levels for gold and riches, all the while listening to my TMBG tape. Hearing this song over 10 years later still brings to me a strange sense of comfort.

During my 20 mile training run at CP I saw a man with cerebral palsy running right beside us. He was running with us by pushing himself backwards in a wheelchair. Freaking amazing. I look forward to running with him, whoever he is, on November 4th.

It's 4:41 in the morning and I am off for my long run at Central Park. This event is being sponsored by NYRR. I will be running 20 miles at CP in the rain with thousands of my brothers.

And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
